April inflation report shows slowdown to 2.1% on year

Consumer prices rose by 0.8% against March and by 1.5% from year-start.

Consumer inflation in Ukraine in April 2020 amounted to 2.1% year-on-year, slowing down from 2.3% reported in March, says the State Statistics Service.

Consumer prices rose by 0.8% against March and by 1.5% from year-start, the statistics agency wrote on its website.

The largest price increase in April (y-o-y) was recorded for fruit (30.3%), water utility services (25.6%), sewage services (21.2%), education services (13.5%), as well as liquor and tobacco (11.8%).

Prices dropped most for natural gas (46.5%), vegetables (21.1%), fuel and oil (18.2%), eggs (17.9%), as well as hot water and heating supplies (13.2%).

The State Statistics Service recalled that the data were reported without taking into account the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, the occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine raised its inflation forecast in Ukraine for 2020 to 6% from the 4.8% projected earlier, while remaining in the target range of 5% +/- 1 pp.

In 2019, inflation in Ukraine slowed down to 4.1%, hitting a six-year low.
