Price of borsch vegetable set slumps in summer

Prices of vegetables from Ukraine's so-called "borsch set" have significantly slumped in the summer of 2020, namely those of onions, beets, cabbage, carrots, and potatoes.

"Price of the borsch set, which includes onions, beets, cabbage, carrots and potatoes, has decreased by 25% from the same period last year [the summer of 2019]," the Ukrainian TSN TV news service reported on July 9.

Prices of onions and beets fell the most, by more than 40%, to UAH 6 and UAH 8 (US$0.22 and US$0.30) per kilogram on average, respectively.

"White cabbage has fallen in price by 22% on average, while prices for carrots decreased by 9% and potatoes by 4%," the publication said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, prices of raspberries, blackberries, bilberries, cherries, blueberries, currants and mulberries skyrocketed this season.

Strawberries can be bought for UAH 60 (US$2.2) per kilogram on average on the markets.

Prices of red and black currants are UAH 45-UAH 50 (US$1.67-US$1.86) per kilogram, those of raspberries, gooseberries and cherries are UAH 70-UAH 80 (US$2.60-US$2.97), while blueberries prices range within UAH 80-UAH 90 (US$2.97-US$3.34).
