Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov says the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the introduction of electronic residency in Ukraine, which will give foreigners access to the country's administrative resources without visiting it.

"Another important news. The government has greenlighted e-residency, and we work every day to implement it," he wrote on Facebook, referring to the government's decision taken on June 25.

According to Fedorov, this is one of the unique projects of the Digital Transformation Ministry, which can make Ukraine a powerful Eastern European IT hub.

"Thanks to e-residency, our country will become attractive for doing business by foreigners soon, first of all, by IT specialists. Foreign nationals, online and without the need to visit Ukraine, will be able to get a Ukrainian qualified electronic signature, registration number of a taxpayer card, the opportunity to open an online account in a Ukrainian bank, and simplified access to Ukraine's administrative services," the minister said.

Fedorov added that the first e-residents might be foreign IT specialists working for Ukrainian companies, as well as specialists from the Asia-Pacific region and neighboring countries, whose e-resident status will help Ukraine to cooperate effectively on the European market.

At the same time, the minister stressed that all e-residents will be thoroughly inspected in Ukraine by law enforcement and financial authorities, as well as the Digital Transformation Ministry. In the near future, the latter, jointly with other government agencies, will develop a regulatory framework for launching the project. An e-residency portal is expected to start operating by the end of the year.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on February 28, 2020, the Digital Transformation Ministry presented the national online platform for entrepreneurs, business.diia.
