Ukraine's government plans to increase buckwheat stocks

Ukraine's Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture says the government plans to increase buckwheat stocks.

"In total, 74,000 hectares were sown with buckwheat this year. The ministry is also looking for ways to transparently purchase buckwheat in reserve since this is necessary to avoid abuse, as it was before," according to the Ukrainian TSN TV news service.

In particular, the price of buckwheat increased sharply by 18% in April. The Cabinet of Ministers imposed a ban on its exports until July 1 to protect the domestic market amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the State Statistics Service listed the products that had grown in price most since the beginning of the year. The prices of buckwheat, onions and apples increased most. The price of buckwheat alone rose by almost 30%.
