Sales of new passenger cars in Ukraine shrink by 7% in Jan-May

The KIA Sportage crossover became the month's bestseller with 593 cars sold.

Sales of new passenger cars in Ukraine declined by 7% in January-May 2020 year-over-year (y-o-y), to 30,000 vehicles.

Ukrainians in May alone purchased and registered 6,000 new passenger cars, which was almost 15% down y-o-y, the Ukrautoprom association's press service said.

Toyota remained in the lead of the May ranking with 1,026 new passenger cars sold on the Ukrainian market, which was 17% down y-o-y.

Renault was second with 851 vehicles sold in over the period under review, which was 12% down from May 2019.

KIA cars ranked third as they were assigned 671 Ukrainian license plates in May showing a 51% growth y-o-y.

The Skoda car brand became fourth with 289 vehicles sold (9% down from May 2019).

The Mercedez-Benz brand ranked fifth with 270 cars with sold over the month (71% growth).

As UNIAN reported earlier, sales of new commercial vehicles in Ukraine in 2019 dropped by 3% y-o-y, to 12,400 vehicles, according to Ukrautoprom.
