Cabinet greenlights spending part of corona relief money on TV series' production

Earlier, the government said the money should be used for the filming of TV series by year-end.

Ukraine's Ministry of Culture and Information Policy says the Ukrainian government has allowed spending money from the COVID-19 relief fund for certain stages of the production of patriotic movie series.

"This will allow spending UAH 100 million [US$3.5 million] allocated for the creation of this socially significant audiovisual content more efficiently and ensuring support for the film industry amid the coronacrisis," the ministry's press service said on its website on October 28.

"Therefore, there is a need to provide for the spending not only to cover the costs of production of the entire TV series, but also to support the implementation of certain periods (stages)," the press service said.

COVID-19 Relief Fund: Background

On April 13, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, passed amendments to the law on the 2020 national budget, according to which a special fund worth UAH 64.7 billion (US$2.3 billion) was created.

Earlier, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov said no coronavirus relief fund was envisaged in the 2021 national budget draft.

On October 27, Ukraine's Finance Ministry said UAH 34.1 billion (US$1.2 billion) was spent from the COVID-19 relief fund worth UAH 66 billion (US$2.3 billion) as of October 23, which accounted for 52% of the total.
