Ukrainian airports have every opportunity by 2024 to resume passenger traffic at 25 million passengers a year that existed before the coronavirus pandemic.

Head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Projects of Ukraine Kyrylo Khomyakov announced this during the Ukraine 30. Infrastructure Forum.

"It is planned that we will be able to resume the pre-COVID passenger traffic by 2024," he said.

"From 2016 to 2019, passenger traffic in Ukraine doubled. This is the largest growth rate in Europe that has ever been registered. This is very powerful and proves that the potential for its further growth in Ukraine after the return to the pre-COVID indicators is huge," he added.

Khomyakov said that noted that air mobility in Ukraine (the total number of air passengers to the total population) is 0.5, which is the lowest indicator in Europe.

"If in five years we reach at least the level of Romania or Poland [whose air mobility is 1.1 and 1.2, respectively], it will be 45 million passengers a year by then. That is, we can easily double this number of passengers with the right strategy for the development of regional airports," he said.
