Ukraine's government earmarks almost US$705,000 for Croatia

The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 20 million, US$704,225, in humanitarian assistance from the reserve fund for Croatia, which has recently been affected by an earthquake.

This was announced by representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Vasyl Mokan on Facebook on January 5.

"By a separate decision at today's special meeting, the government allocated UAH 20 million in humanitarian aid to the Republic of Croatia from the reserve fund for measures to overcome the consequences of the earthquake that occurred on December 29, 2020," he said.

Recent quakes in Croatia

  • On December 29, 2020, a powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck central Croatia. The town of Petrinja, which is located 50 km from Zagreb, was its epicenter. At least seven people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed and dozens were injured.
  • The Ukrainian embassy's building in Zagreb was slightly damaged during the earthquake. Ukrainian diplomats were not injured.
  • An earthquake was also recorded in the same area on December 28.
  • On January 4, 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed decree No. 1/2021 on providing humanitarian aid to the Republic of Croatia struck by an earthquake late in 2020.
