The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) says it has issued the country's first vertical, souvenir banknote dedicated to Leonid Kadenyuk, the first astronaut of independent Ukraine.
Kadenyuk's portrait is the main image of the banknote's front side with the inscription "THE FIRST ASTRONAUT OF UKRAINE" above, the NBU's press service said on its website on November 26.
The reverse side features the Space Shuttle Columbia against the backdrop of planets in the solar system.
"The souvenir banknote has a set of security features, in particular, the SPARK optically variable element in the form of a globe. Depending on the angle of view, the image changes its color from green to blue. The banknote is made of paper with a watermark depicting a globe with continents," it said.
The banknote is not a means of payment.
