Sales of electric vehicles down in Ukraine in Feb

Since the year-start, some 1,034 electric vehicles had been sold on Ukraine's car market.

Sales of electric vehicles in Ukraine in February 2021 shrank by 20% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 532 units.

In particular, 55 new electric vehicles were sold on the market in February, which accounted for 10% of said number, against a 4% share y-o-y, the Ukrautoprom Association's press service said on its website on March 5.

At the same time, electric passenger cars were in the lead of the month's sales, that is 510 units got Ukrainian registration (51 new cars and 459 those with mileage).

Registrations of electric passenger cars in the second month of 2021 declined by 18% y-o-y, the report said.

Chevrolet Bolt had remained the most popular electric car in Ukraine for the second month in a row with 132 registrations over the period under review.

Former electric vehicle market leader Nissan Leaf ranked second with 129 cars registered in Ukraine.

Tesla Model 3 joined the Top three bestsellers, with 37 cars sold in February.

In total, since January 1, 2021, some 1,034 electric vehicles had been sold on Ukraine's car market, which was 20.5% down y-o-y. The share of vehicles with mileage was 90% against 95% reported over the same period in 2020.

Background

Sales of electric vehicles in Ukraine in 2019 soared by almost 1.5 times against 2018, to 7,542.

Such sales in January-November 2020 shrank by 2% y-o-y, to 6,823 cars.

Sales of electric vehicles in the country in 2020 dropped by 1% against 2019, to 7,455. In particular, sales of passenger cars stood at 7,095 (new ones accounted for a mere 9%), those of commercial cars – at 359 (with a 3% share of new vehicles), while only one electric bus, manufactured in 2019, was sold last year.
