Ukraine sees 21% drop in sales of electric vehicles in Jan

The Chevrolet Bolt was the most popular e-car in Ukraine.

Sales of electric vehicles in Ukraine in January 2021 decreased by 21% year-on-year (y-o-y), to 502 units.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association Ukrautoprom on its website.

In particular, of the number, 469 passenger cars and 33 commercial vehicles were sold over the period under review.

The share of new cars in the January electric passenger car market was almost 10% against 6% in January 2020.

Top five electric cars in Ukraine

  • The Chevrolet Bolt became the most popular electric car in Ukraine in January with 133 registrations.
  • The Nissan Leaf (107) ranked second.
  • The Tesla Model 3 was third with 34 registrations and the Tesla Model S was fourth with 24 registrations.
  • The last of the top five was the Tesla Model X with 21 registrations.

In the commercial segment, only two MAN eTGE models were new. The RENAULT Kangoo Z.E. was the most demanded vehicle among commercial e-vehicles with 26 registrations (all were used vehicles).

Preceding developments

  • Sales of e-vehicles in Ukraine in 2020 decreased by 1% against 2019, to 7,455 units. In particular, 7,095 passenger cars (a mere 9% of them were new) and 359 commercial vehicles (the share of new ones was 3%) were sold over the period under review. Only one e-bus (manufactured in 2019) was also sold.
