Electricity imports into Ukraine decline by 66.7% in April

Ukraine did not buy electricity from Russia.

Electricity imports into Ukraine declined by 66.7% in April 2020 from March 2020, to 150.6 million kWh.

The trade zone of Ukraine's integrated power grids, which are synchronized with the energy systems of Russia, Belarus and Moldova, received 2.7 million kWh (less than 0.03% of total electricity output) in April 2020, which was 70.6% down on March 2020, NPC Ukrenergo said on its website on May 15.

In April, Ukraine did not buy electricity from Russia, while power purchases in Belarus decreased by 65.5%.

To ensure operational security in April, imports into the trade zone of Ukraine's integrated power grids were limited by 98% in aggregate (those from Russia by 100%).

Imports into the trade zone of the so-called energy island of Burshtyn thermal power plant, which is in simultaneous operation with the European energy association ENTSO-E, in April 2020 totaled 147.9 million kWh, which was 65.5% down on March 2020.

Slovakia accounted for the lion's share of electricity imports, having supplied 102.94 million kWh.

According to Ukrenergo, electricity exports from Ukraine in April 2020 stood at 237.9 million kWh, which was 70% down on March 2020. In particular, Hungary bought 129.5 million kWh of Ukrainian electricity.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine bought 442.5 million kWh abroad in March 2020, which was 19.7% down on February 2020.
