Emergency shutdown at Zaporizhia TPP on Feb 3: What is known

  • On February 3, all working power units at Zaporizhia TPP were automatically put to a halt.
  • DTEK Zaporizhia TPP was completely disconnected from the power grid due to a short circuit at the Luch substation run by Zaporizhiaoblenergo, a regional electricity distribution company. Due to a short circuit at the substation, fuses were triggered at the Zaporizhia TPP units, which prevented a larger-scale emergency. At the time of the incident, three power units with a total capacity of 750 MW were in operation.
  • The shutdown led to a short-term blackout in the town of Enerhodar hosting the plant.
  • On February 4, Zaporizhia TPP fully resumed its operation.
