Coal stocks at Ukrainian thermal power plants on the decline

The stocks shrank by a fifth.

Coal stocks in the warehouses of Ukrainian thermal power plants decreased by 20%, to 810,100 tonnes from December 22 through December 30, 2020.

In particular, stocks of anthracite coal over the period under review shrank by 8.6%, to 216,700 tonnes. Stocks of gas coal decreased by 22.7%, to 593,400 tonnes.

Previous developments

In January-November 2020, Ukraine reduced foreign currency spending on imports of coal and anthracite by 40.15% year-on-year, to US$1.55 billion.
Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine in 2019 decreased by 6.2% from 2018, to 31.22 million tonnes.
