Coal stocks at Ukrainian thermal power plants on the decline

The stocks shrank by a fifth.

Coal stocks in the warehouses of Ukrainian thermal power plants decreased by 20%, to 810,100 tonnes from December 22 through December 30, 2020.

This was reported by the Energy Ministry's press service.

In particular, stocks of anthracite coal over the period under review shrank by 8.6%, to 216,700 tonnes. Stocks of gas coal decreased by 22.7%, to 593,400 tonnes.

Previous developments

  • In January-November 2020, Ukraine reduced foreign currency spending on imports of coal and anthracite by 40.15% year-on-year, to US$1.55 billion.
  • Production of thermal and coking coal in Ukraine in 2019 decreased by 6.2% from 2018, to 31.22 million tonnes.
