Ukraine's electricity price highest in EU in Q2 – European Commission

The lowest electricity rates were recorded in Norway and Sweden.

The average electricity price in Ukraine in the second quarter of 2020 (Q2) was higher than in European Union member states.

It particular, over the period under review, the highest electricity rates in Europe were registered in the Burshtynska Energy Island – the area of Burshtynska thermal power plant – (EUR 50.4 per MWh), the Polish electric power system (EUR 40.1 per MWh) and Ukraine's Integrated Power System (EUR 40 per MWh).

The lowest electricity rates were recorded in Norway and Sweden, where, due to quarantine restrictions and large-scale electricity generation at hydroelectric power plants, the price was from EUR 4.8 to EUR 12.3 per MWh.

They are followed by France (EUR 18 per MWh), Belgium (EUR 18.6 per MWh), Switzerland (EUR 19.9 per MWh), as well as Denmark and Germany (EUR 20.3 per MWh each).

In Q2, 2020, the average price of electricity in the European Union was EUR 24 per MWh, which was 29% down from Q1 and 44% lower year-over-year.
