Bill on Ukraine's 2021 budget signed into law

The deficit of the national budget is capped at US$8.7 billion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a bill on the national budget for 2021 into law.

This was reported by the presidential press service on December 25.

The bill was adopted the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, on December 15.

According to the document, budget revenue for 2021 amounts to UAH 1.084 trillion, or US$38.2 billion, while budget spending is set at UAH 1.320 trillion, or US$46.6 billion. The deficit of the national budget is capped at UAH 246.635 billion, or US$8.7 billion.

The 2021 budget provides for almost UAH 160 billion, or US$5.6 billion, for healthcare, and almost UAH 170 billion, or US$5.9 billion, will be allocated for the development of education and science. Spending on national security and defense is foreseen in the amount of UAH 267 billion (US$9.4 billion), or 5.93% of GDP.

From January 1, 2021, the minimum wage will increase to UAH 6,000 (US$211.6), and from December 1, 2021, it will be UAH 6,500 (US$229.3), with a respective review of expenditures for public sector employees' salaries.
