Official names countries Ukraine intends to develop trade with in 2021

The first stage of preparation for talks with Egypt, Tunisia, and Jordan has already started.

Ukraine's Deputy Minister for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture and Trade Envoy Taras Kachka says Ukraine intends to ease customs burdens on Ukrainian goods and develop trade relations with other countries in 2021.

He made the comment during the online conference, titled "GoGlobal: There should be more Ukrainian goods in the world," as reported by an UNIAN correspondent on January 8.

"This year, we plan to update the [Deep and Comprehensive] Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, because a five-year period has already passed. We'll also expand the agreement with Canada," he said.

According to Kachka, the issue of establishing trade relations with Turkey remains relevant for Ukraine, since many domestic businesses are interested in such Read alsoUkraine drafting deals on free trade areas with five countries – Minister Petrashkorelations. There is also demand for the development of trade with Asian countries and the Mediterranean region.

"We've already started the first stage of preparations for talks with Egypt, Tunisia, and Jordan. A big project is expected to be developed with China soon because it's our major partner, obviously. Exports to China grew by 92% in 11 months of 2020. There are grounds for the liberalization of international trade," he summed up.

On October 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Boris Johnson signed an agreement on political cooperation, free trade and partnership between the states.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said Ukraine hopes to have the deal ratified by the end of the year.

On December 9, 2020, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on developing bilateral trade and partnership during a roundtable discussion on the development of relations between the two countries within the Political, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in October.

On December 16, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, ratified the deal.

On December 29, 2020, it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers was drafting agreements on free trade areas (FTAs) with Egypt, Jordan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China.
