Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yakiv Smolii, has signed a resignation letter, the bank's press service reports.

The move is a result of what he claims is long-standing political pressure.

Smolii has submitted the resignation letter for President Volodymyr Zelensky's consideration.

"The National Bank of Ukraine has long been under systematic political pressure. This makes it impossible for me, as Governor, to perform tasks entrusted to me, manage the activities of the National Bank, and interact with other state bodies," Smolii wrote in a statement.
