The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture says some 71% of grains have already been harvested in Ukraine.

This is about 53 million tonnes harvested from 17 million hectares, according to TSN.ua.

"About 198,000 tonnes of millet has already been harvested, almost 86,000 tonnes of buckwheat and nearly 8 million tonnes of sunflower, as well as 1.3 million tonnes of soybeans and just over 5 million tonnes of corn," the report says.

Export and import

It is noted that, despite the ongoing quarantine, Ukraine's imports exceed exports. That's according to the State Customs Service. Over the nine months of 2020, imports stood at UAH 38 billion against UAH 35 billion worth of exports.

The three leading importers are China, Germany, and Russia. Most goods were exported from Ukraine to China, Poland, and Russia.

Background

This year, grain exports from Ukraine have decreased significantly.

Since the marketing year start, a little over 12 million tonnes of grain crops have been sold to foreign buyers, which is 2 million tonnes fewer than last year.
