Grain harvesting campaign in Ukraine entering active phase – economy ministry

Ukraine's Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture says the grain harvesting campaign in the country is entering its active phase.

"The harvesting campaign is entering the active phase. The first 100,000 tonnes of grain has been threshed," the ministry said on Facebook on June 26.

Due to weather conditions, farmers began harvesting earlier than in previous years.

The first to launch the harvesting campaign were some districts in the southern regions.

As of June 26, farmers gathered winter crops (barley, wheat and rapeseed) from an area of 35,700 hectares (ha): 25,910 ha hectares in Mykolaiv region, 7,240 ha in Kherson region, and 2,500 ha in Odesa region.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the ministry expects that the yield of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2020 will be 68 million tonnes, while that of oilseeds is expected at 20 million tonnes.
