Ukraine harvests over 20 mln tonnes of new grain

Ukrainian farmers have launched the harvesting campaign in all regions of Ukraine; the yield of new grain is 20.6 million tonnes now.

"As of July 23, Ukrainian agricultural producers had harvested 20.6 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from 5.7 million hectares (ha), which was 38% of the forecast," the press service of Ukraine's Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture said.

"In total, farmers harvested 21.9 million tonnes of grain, leguminous crops and rapeseed (including 7 million tonnes in the past week) from 6.3 million ha," it said.

In particular, 12.8 million tonnes of wheat was threshed from 3.5 million ha (53% to the forecast); the yield of barley was 6.4 million tonnes from 1.7 million ha (75% to the forecast); that of peas was 385,000 tonnes from 173,000 ha (74% to the forecast).

In addition, 1.2 million tonnes of rapeseed was harvested from 623,000 ha (55% to the forecast).

The ministry says that the following regions are in the lead by yields: Dnipropetrovsk region with 2.7 million tonnes from 787,000 ha, Zaporizhia region with 2.7 million tonnes from 776,000 ha, Kherson region with 2.5 million tonnes from 823,000 ha, Mykolaiv region with 2.5 million tonnes from 844,000 ha, and Donetsk region with 2.2 million tonnes from 596,000 ha.

The ministry forecasts Ukraine may harvest 68 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops this year. The yield of oilseeds in 2020 is expected at 20 million tonnes.
