PM Shmyhal informs how Ukraine will use IMF funds

The first disbursement worth US$2.1 billion was wired to Ukraine on June 12.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has informed the public that the first tranche allocated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under a new cooperation program with Ukraine will be funneled directly into the country's national budget.

"Ukraine has received the first tranche from the IMF in the amount of US$2.1 billion today," he said on Facebook on June 12. "These funds will go directly to the budget so that the government continues to effectively deal with the consequences of the coronacrisis."

"The agreements with the International Monetary Fund were reached as a result of the joint work of the government, the Office of the President, the Verkhovna Rada, and the National Bank," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the IMF Executive Board on June 9 approved an 18-month Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) for Ukraine, with access equivalent to SDR 3.6 billion (about US$5 billion, or 179% of quota). The first disbursement is worth US$2.1 billion.
