Interior Ministry asks for some US$97.7 mln in additional financing from COVID-19 fund – StateWatch

The ministry also requested US$6.4 million for bonuses to medics and other staff in its clinics.

The appeal submitted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that "funds in the amount of UAH 2.5 billion are planned to be used to pay a surcharge of up to 50% of wages" to border guards, National Guardsmen, and police.

Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs has asked the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate about UAH 2.6 billion (US$97.7 million) for additional payments to employees of its structures from the national anti-coronavirus fund.

In a letter addressed to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the ministry asks the Cabinet to provide said funds for bonuses to police, national guard officers, and border guards amid quarantine enforcement measures, according to Ukrainian NGO StateWatch.

"Funds worth UAH 2.5 billion [US$94 million) are planned to be used for additional payments – of up to 50% of salaries – to servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Border Service, privates and commanders of civil protection bodies, as well as police officers on duty," reads the letter of May 27, referring to a Government Resolution.

Moreover, the ministry asked for UAH 171 million (US$6.4 million) in additional payments to healthcare workers and other staff providing assistance to COVID-19 patients in subordinated clinics.

Earlier, Ukraine's State Management of Affairs asked Shmyhal to allocate UAH 23.4 million (US$879,699) in additional aid to medical institutions for top officials, in particular the Feofaniya Clinical Hospital, to counter the COVID-19 spread.
