Ukraine ranks 83rd in mobile internet speed – Speedtest Global Index

The country will need up to US$450 million in investment to develop high-speed internet in the next five years, the World Bank says.

Ukraine has ranked 58th in the Speedtest Global Index ranking in terms of fixed broadband internet speed, and 83rd in mobile access speed.

Over the past 12 months, download speed via the broadband in the country has grown by 11 Mbps, and by 4 Mbps – via mobile, according to Speedtest Global Index.

In October 2020, Ukraine saw a 61.78 Mbps cable internet speed, taking a 58th spot, having beaten Vietnam, Australia, and Montenegro.

The Top 3 with the highest-speed fixed internet are Singapore (229.42 Mbps), Hong Kong (215.19 Mbps), and Romania (188.55 Mbps), while Top 3 in terms of highest speed mobile internet embrace South Korea (145.03 Mbps), the UAE (129.61 Mbps), and China (124.39 Mbps).

World Bank on relevant investment

According to the World Bank, Ukraine will need from US$350 million to US$450 million in investment to develop higher speed internet in the next five years.

Internet access in Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers has identified the development of high-speed 4G and 5G communications as one of the government's digital transformation priorities.

On November 11, 2020, the government approved an action plan for the implementation of high-speed 5G in Ukraine, which allows holding the first tenders for 5G radio frequencies in October 2021.
