NBU mints coin to honor opera singer, Donbas war hero Vasyl Slipak (Photo, video)

The coin will be officially put into circulation on June 21, but now it can be pre-ordered online.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has minted a coin to honor outstanding Ukrainian opera singer and Donbas war hero Vasyl Slipak.

That's according to the NBU's press service.

The two-hryvnia coin will be issued with a circulation of 35,000 pieces. A portrait of Slipak, a note row and Ukraine's smaller coat of arms are depicted on its head side.

UNIAN memo

  • Wassyl (Vasyl) Slipak was a Ukrainian baritone opera singer.
  • Slipak, who had lived in France for 19 years, working at the Paris Opera, was shot dead by an enemy sniper from Russia-led forces in Donbas on June 29, 2016.
  • Slipak was serving in the Ukrainian army, defending Ukraine against Russian aggression.
