Motor Sich masters domestic production of all helicopter systems – minister

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleh Urusky says the country's aerospace giant Motor Sich has mastered production of all helicopter systems operated in Ukraine.

The comment came following a meeting with the top managers of Ukraine's state-owned defense concern Ukroboronprom and aircraft building enterprises held in the city of Kharkiv.

"Ukrainian aircraft manufacturers are confidently moving toward creating a helicopter construction industry. JSC Motor Sich has mastered production of all helicopter systems in Ukraine, as per their top managers' statements," he wrote on Facebook on February 26.

The ministry, Urusky says, keeps the situation as regards the Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company (KSAMC) under special control. In particular, steps are being taken to facilitate the order for four An-74 aircraft for the Defense Ministry.

Also, the issue of unit construction for aviation equipment was raised at the meeting.

Background

In late 2020, the first flight tests of two sets of Ukrainian-made blades for Mi-24 and MSB-8 helicopters took place at the Motor Sich flight test facility.

JSC Motor Sich is one of Ukraine's major aerospace manufacturers. Its production staples include engines for the Mi-8/Mi-17 and Ka-226 helicopters, engines for the An-70, An-124, An-140, An-148, Yak-130 aircraft, as well as gas pumps and power generating sets.
