One in four Ukrainians expects worsening of economic situation in next six months – poll

They say the authorities' incompetency could cause an economic crisis this autumn.

An opinion poll says one in four Ukrainians expects the worsening of the economic situation in the next six months.

When asked how the economic situation in Ukraine may change in the next six months, 35% of the respondents answered that they think it will not change, while 25% of Ukrainians believe that it is likely to worsen, according to findings of a survey conducted by the Sociological Group Rating on July 15-20 on the topic: "Ukraine: Assessment of the Social and Political Situation."

Some 30% say that the economic situation in Ukraine over the past six months has definitely worsened while 36% say it has rather worsened. Another 24% of pollees believe that the economic situation in the country has not changed.

Most Ukrainians (57%) named the incompetence of the authorities as a cause why the economic crisis may occur this autumn, 26% says it may happen because of the coronavirus.

The poll was conducted among citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbass. The sample is representative by age, gender and type of settlement. Some 2,000 people were polled via personal (face-to-face) formalized interviews. The error of margin is no more than 2.2%.
