Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko says Ukraine has suspended its large-scale privatization campaign in the wake the coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantine.

"Funds from privatization are practically not earmarked in the [national] budget. By changing the budget, we have reduced the amount [of revenue] from privatization as much as possible, sending a signal to all investors that the government will not be selling its assets any time soon during the crisis," Marchenko told TV channel Ukraine 24 on June 10.

The minister noted that the prices of enterprises put on sale are at their lowest over the coronacrissis. However, he added, the Cabinet expects to return to the privatization issue as soon as possible.

"We must sell state assets at their highest price. The state must get the most out of them if we decide to sell them effectively. Don't believe rumors, believe facts. I'm a responsible person," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a large-scale privatization campaign in the country would start after the coronavirus pandemic is over.
