Renewables: 25,600 Ukrainian households install PV systems as of July 1

Ukraine's State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving says 25,600 households in Ukraine had installed photovoltaic (PV) systems with a total capacity of 658 MW as of July 1, 2020, against 11,900 households year-over-year (y-o-y).

"As of July 1, 2020, more than 25,600 households in Ukraine used 'clean' electricity, having installed photovoltaic systems. The investment made by households exceeds EUR 520 million, while the capacity of all PV systems totals 658 MW. In particular, during the second quarter of 2020, about 1,500 households switched to the use of solar panels," the agency's press service said on its website on July 21.

The top five Ukrainian regions in terms of the number of installed PV systems were Dnipropetrovsk region (3,500), Ternopil region (over 2,200), Kyiv region (over 2,000), Ivano-Frankivsk region (over 1,800), and Zakarpattia region (over 1,600).

Changes to support the development of renewable energy in Ukraine, which are being actively discussed now, do not refer to households, the press service added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, US$3.7 billion was invested in Ukrainian renewables in 2019, which allowed the construction of additional 4.5 GW facilities. Thus, the total capacity of the renewable sector was 6.8 GW late last year.

The main incentive of renewable energy generation in Ukraine is the so-called "green," or feed-in tariff, which is higher than other power rates.
