Ex-head of State Food and Grain Corporation charged with embezzlement

The former top manager had allegedly unlawfully increased the size of official salaries, bonuses, and allowances.

The Security Service of Ukraine has pressed charges of embezzlement against ex-chief of the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine.

The damage inflicted to the state budget amounts to UAH 9 million, the SBU press service reports.

"According to the investigation's preliminary data, the official, who is a citizen of Great Britain, has set up an illegal mechanism for the embezzlement of the state corporation's funds," the report reads.

The Office of the Prosecutor General in its report said the ex-official had "unlawfully added 18 posts to the company staff list and increased the size of official salaries, bonuses, and allowances."

According to the report, investigative actions are ongoing to establish all circumstances of the case and bring to justice other persons complicit in the wrongdoing.

According to Latifundist.com, British citizen Simon Cherniavsky was appointed acting head of the SFGCU in December 2019.

In April 2020, Cherniavsky has decided not to extend the temporary employment contract.

He said the shareholder and he had different visions on how the SFGCU should develop, in particular, in the matter of corporate governance strategy and protection of the Corporation from political interests.
