Ukrainian farmers sow winter grain crops on 76% of planned area

Ukrainian farmers as of October 19 sowed 6.2 million hectares (ha) with winter grain, which accounted for 76% of the planned area.

Leaders in terms of sowing rates are Odesa region (350,600 ha), Zaporizhia region (127,000 ha) and Mykolaiv region (126,700 ha). Moreover, the sowing campaign has been completed in Poltava region, the report said.

Weather conditions

According to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS), the weather in the second half of October is conducive to winter crops. In particular, the soil drought in most areas under the crops stopped after heavy rains across Ukraine.
