Ukraine sees decline in milk, egg, meat production

Ukraine saw a decline in milk, egg, meat production in the past eight months.

This was reported by the country's State Statistics Service.

Milk production

Milk production in Ukraine in January-August 2020 totaled 6.45 million tonnes, which was 3.8% down year-on-year.

Agri-businesses reduced milk production by 0.2%, while households saw a 5.2% decline in meat output.

Egg output

According to the State Statistics Service, the production of eggs in the country in the eight months decreased by 0.9%, to 11.543 billion eggs, and both agri-businesses and households saw the decrease.

Meat and wool production

Meat production during the reporting period fell by 0.2%, to 2.14 million tonnes. In particular, households saw a 3.4% decrease in meat production, while agri-businesses boosted meat production by 1.2%.

Wool production for the reporting period stood at 1,229 tonnes, which was 11.6% down year-on-year.

Previous developments

  • The State Statistics Service said meat production in Ukraine in 2019 increased by 4.8%, to 3.47 million tonnes (in live weight), while production of eggs rose by 3.4%, to 16.6 billion eggs.
  • Milk output decreased by 3.7%, to a record low of 9.68 million tonnes.
