Ukrainians spend about half of money on food – statistics

Meat is the largest expense item.

Ukraine's State Statistics Service has said Ukrainians spend about half of their money on food.

"A two-member family allocates UAH 9,000 (US$335) for their needs per month on the average; of which, about half is spent on food," reads the report, according to the TV news service TSN.ua.

It is noted meat is the largest expense item. Ukrainians spend about UAH 1,000 (US$37.22) on buying meat. In addition, they spend almost the same amount on bread, milk, cheese, and eggs. The average cost of vegetables is a mere UAH 300 (US$11.16). The lowest spending is on fruit and sweets.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the average nominal wage of a full-time employee shrank by 8.9% in Ukraine in April 2020 against March 2020, while growing by 1.6% year-over-year (y-o-y), to UAH 10,430, or US$388. The average nominal rate of a full-time employee in Ukraine in April 2020 was 2.2 times up from the minimum wage set at UAH 4,723 (US$176).
