Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods shrinks by 66.7% in Jan-April

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods shrank by 66.7% in January-April 2020 year-over-year, to US$674.5 million.

Exports of goods from Ukraine over this period decreased by 1.7%, to US$16.086 billion, while imports fell by 9.3%, to US$16.760 billion, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said on its website.

The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.96.

Ukraine traded with partners from 215 countries and regions.

China was Ukraine's biggest trading partner in the first four months. Exports to China almost doubled, to US$1.786 billion, while imports from China fell by 5.5%, to US$2.398 billion.

Poland was also among the top trading partners. Exports of goods to that country decreased by 6.5%, to US$1.040 billion, while imports fell by 7.8%, to US$1.166 billion.

In total, exports of goods to EU countries decreased by 10.7%, to US$6.195 billion, while imports of goods from EU countries fell by 5.6%, to US$7.314 billion.

As UNIAN reported, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2019 was estimated at US$3.633 billion, which was 41.2% down on the deficit reported in 2018. In 2019, the deficit in foreign trade in goods alone increased by 8.8%, to US$10.723 billion.
