Ukraine, Japan approve health certificates for milk, dairy exports from Ukraine

Japan is one of Ukraine's largest trade partners.

Ukraine and Japan have approved health certificates for exports of raw milk and dairy foods from Ukraine.

This means that Ukrainian producers will be able to sell milk to Japan, Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection said on its website on March 9.

"This is very good news for Ukrainian producers interested in exporting raw milk and dairy products: Japan, the market of one of Ukraine's largest strategic partners for Ukrainian food exports, has been opened," Vladyslava Magaletska, who heads the service, was quoted as saying.

According to her, the agency is now working with international partners to expand sales markets in almost 30 countries for the following commodities: poultry products, cattle, as well as beef and pork, milk and dairy products, honey, apples, blueberries and cherries, peas and beans, onions, wheat flour, fish and fish products, reproductive materials.

Previous developments

  • In February 2021, Lebanon opened its market for milk and dairy products from Ukraine, and Ethiopia let exports of Ukrainian eggs.
  • In 2020, Ukraine got access to 12 new markets for its exports, had 35 export certificates approved, and underwent two audits by the European Union that assessed government control over the production of fish and fish products, poultry meat, and derived products.
