Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has said UAE-based Mubadala Investment Company is interested in acquiring seven Ukrainian state-owned enterprises.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the State Property Fund (SPF) of Ukraine held a constituent meeting with representatives of the Mubadala investment fund (UAE) and discussed its participation in large-scale privatization [campaign]," the ministry's press service said on its website on June 23.

In particular, representatives of one of the world's leading investment funds, with over US$850 billion worth of assets, were interested in participating in the tender for the privatization of seven enterprises, including Ukraine's power generating company Centrenergo, the United Mining and Chemical Company, and a number of regional power distribution companies (oblenergos).

The meeting participants also discussed the stage of project preparation and operational issues. In particular, they agreed to establish contacts at the operational level between representatives of Mubadala and the SPF with the assistance of Ukraine's foreign ministry and the Embassy of Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates.

Subject to reopening of borders between Ukraine and the UAE amid the COVID-19 lockdown easing, a commission of the fund may visit Ukraine as early as in July to see and evaluate the attractiveness of the facilities put up for sale.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our embassy in the United Arab Emirates are working to attract investment in Ukraine. I'm very pleased that the Mubadala fund is interested in participating in a large-scale privatization campaign in Ukraine. This is a good signal that powerful world players see Ukraine's great potential and intend to invest in it. In addition, the participation of large investment funds makes the large-scale privatization procedure more competitive," the press service quoted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as saying after the meeting.
