UIA cuts passenger traffic by 75% in H1

President of Ukraine's largest air carrier, Ukraine International Airlines (UIA), Yevhen Dykhne, says the company in January-June 2020 (H1) reduced passenger traffic by 75% year-over-year (y-o-y) to 1 million passengers.

"In the first half of the year, we transported about 1 million [people], against nearly 4 million last year. This means that the aviation industry has to start almost from scratch, and only employees' interests and reliability deserve sincere respect," he wrote on Facebook on August 18.

Performance results

Dykhne has summed up preliminary results of the air carrier's work after the partial resumption of flights amid the coronavirus-related quarantine easing.

Read alsoUkraine's largest air carrier UIA presents business recovery strategy"From mid-June to mid-August, we operated about 1,238 regular and charter flights, 86% of them departed as scheduled. About 113,345 passengers and 390,185 kilograms of cargo and mail were transported," he said.

Reduction in passenger traffic

Dykhne earlier said that UIA expected a 46% reduction in passenger traffic in 2020, to 1.9 million people.

Ukraine International Airlines was founded in 1992. The airline connects Ukraine with capitals and key cities of Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and CIS countries and provides connections with its international partners' flights. UIA hub is Boryspil International Airport near Kyiv.

UIA flights

UIA announced a summer expansion of its flights over easing of the border crossing by some countries for Ukrainians traveling for tourism purposes.

On August 4, 2020, UIA canceled a number of flights until the end of August.

On July 24, UIA canceled certain flights scheduled for August.

The air carrier on August 19, 2020, announced a revision of its flight schedule until September 14.
