Economy ministry downgrades grain harvest outlook

The Ministry for Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture has lowered the forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine in 2020 by 3 million tonnes, or to 65 million tonnes.

"The 2020 harvest is coming to an end in Ukraine. This year, farmers have harvested less grain and oilseeds. The grain harvest is expected to reach 65 million tonnes – this is quite enough to meet domestic demand," Deputy Economy Minister Taras Vysotskyi wrote on Facebook.

Background

The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture predicts the harvest of grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2020 at 68 million tonnes, and the yield of oilseeds is projected at 20 million tonnes.

Ukraine in 2019 harvested 75.1 million tonnes of grain, which was 4 million tonnes up to the figure reported in 2018.
