Economy ministry predicts smaller grain yield over maize losses

High temperatures and ongoing drought reduce maize yields.

Ukrainian Deputy Minister for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi says the ministry has again revised downward its forecast for the yield of grain in the country, from 70 million tonnes to 68 million tonnes, over possible maize harvest losses.

Sunflower harvest

Sunflower harvest is expected to reach 14 million tonnes this year, the official added.

In August 2020, the ministry worsened its forecast for the yield of grain across the country from to 72.1 million tonnes to 70 million tonnes over possible maize harvest losses.

In spring 2020, the ministry expected the yield of grains and legumes in Ukraine would reach 68 million tonnes, while that of oilseeds might be at 20 million tonnes.
