Ukraine cuts freight transportation by 16.5%, passenger traffic down by 44% in Jan-May

Freight turnover also fell by 19.9% and passenger turnover shrank by 51.6%.

Ukraine's transport enterprises in January-May 2020 reduced freight transportation by 16.5% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 229 million tonnes, while cutting passenger transportation by 43.7%, to 1.012 billion people.

Freight turnover over the period under review shrank by 19.9% y-o-y, to 112.7 billion tonnes per kilometer, while passenger turnover shrank by 51.6%, to 20 billion passengers per kilometer, according to the State Statistics Service.

The report does not include information from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the agency said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the transport enterprises in 2019 boosted freight transportation by 8% from 2018, to 674.5 million tonnes, while reducing passenger transportation by 4%, to 4.26 billion people.
