Ukraine's Cabinet issues decree on special duty on coal imports from Russia

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has issued a decree on the impositions of a special duty at 65% on coal imports, except for anthracite and coking coal, from Russia.

According to the document, the duty does not apply to the import of anthracite, regardless of the purpose of import, bituminous, coking and other coal (for use in the metallurgical, coke, and chemical industries).

Exemptions also apply to bituminous, coking and other coal (with the release of volatile substances in terms of dry mineral-free basis up to 35%) imported for use in electricity and thermal generation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Agriculture Ihor Petrashko at a Cabinet meeting on March 18 said that a special duty at 65% on imports of electricity and coal, except for anthracite and coking coal, from Russia would be imposed from April 1, 2020.

However, in early April, the introduction of a special duty was postponed to April 15, according to the government decree.

On April 15, the introduction of a special duty was postponed to May 1.
