Ukraine's freelance market grew to a record high level amid the coronavirus-related lockdown.

"The overall picture in the Ukrainian freelance market was changeable this spring. In March and April, the figures 'stumbled' the most. The total budget of all projects on the Freelancehunt platform within the two months amounted to UAH 28 million [US$1 million], which is comparable to the period after January holidays. However, the situation stabilized in May, showing steady growth and adding UAH 5 million [187.6 million] to the budget," the Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrayinska Pravda wrote on June 25, referring to a study by Freelancehunt.

"Comparing the number of orders by month, one can see that they have decreased slightly. In March, the number of projects reduced by 10%, but in April it rebound to the previous figure," the publication said.

"Not only [the market in] showed a comprehensive growth in May, it also allowed setting an absolute record. While 3,600-3,800 projects on average are published on the [Freelancehunt platform] service per week, this figure rose to 4,200-4,300 orders in May," it added.

At the same time, the number of freelancers also increased over the period under review. The peak of activity was observed in the first weeks of the lockdown. In particular, a 43.8% surge in new registrations was reported on March 16-22, against the figure posted on February 16-22.
