Over the period under review, the country imported gas from European Union countries alone, as Ukraine has not bought gas from Russia since November 2015, LLC Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) said on July 1.

In particular, in the six months, 3.9 bcm of gas arrived from Slovakia (16% up y-o-y), 2.2 bcm from Hungary (39% up), and 0.9 bcm from Poland (34% up), the report said.

The volumes bought from Hungary and Poland also include 1.2 bcm and 0.5 bcm of gas, respectively, supplied via a virtual reverse flow (backhaul), which first became available early this year.

"Since the beginning of the year, 3.7 bcm of gas imports, including 1.8 bcm (49%) delivered as short-haul shipments, has been transferred to Ukraine's underground storage facilities [USFs] for storing in the 'customs warehouse' mode," the report said.

In June alone, Ukraine imported 1.8 bcm of natural gas, which was 9% up y-o-y.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2019 boosted natural gas imports by 34.4%, or by 3.65 bcm, up to 14.25 bcm.

The country in 2018 reduced natural gas imports by 24.6% from 2017, to 10.59 bcm.
