Ukraine unemployment on continued decline in July

In July, 68,000 Ukrainians became officially unemployed, which is 7,000 fewer than a month earlier.

The number of newly registered unemployed Ukrainians continued to decline in July, amounting to 68,000.

Thus is 7,000 fewer than a month earlier, according to the press service of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.

"Recently, the growth in unemployment numbers has stopped. In April 149,000 people received the status of unemployed, in May there were 97,000 people, in June there were 75,000 people, and in July – down to 68,000," the report reads.

During the quarantine period from March 12 to July 31, more than 395,000 Ukrainians became unemployed. At the same time, 222,000 people got new jobs, of which 46% – In agriculture, 14% – in the processing industry, and 13% – in trade.

It is also reported that employers submitted 215,700 applications for social assistance under the partial unemployment program as of August 3, of which more than 188,000 were submitted by individual entrepreneurs.

Through employment centers, payments were provided to more than 357,000 people, including to 174,500 individual entrepreneurs. It is noted that the program has already allocated UAH 1.829 billion.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine predicted a peak in the unemployment rate for the second quarter – up to 11.5%, after which in H2 2020, the rate will decline but remain above last year's level by year-end, while standing below 10%.

The Cabinet has increased the budget of the Social Insurance Fund for unemployment cases by UAH 6 billion. Of this sum, UAH 4.7 billion will be directed to assistance for partial unemployment.
