Ukraine world's second-largest exporter of organic produce to EU

In 2019, the EU imported 3.24 million tonnes of organic products, of which more than 10% was delivered from Ukraine.

Ukraine in 2019 was the top exporter in Europe and second-largest exporter worldwide of organic products to the European Union, rising two positions against last year.

That's according to the press service of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, citing the European Commission's annual report.

"The growing demand of European consumers for Ukrainian organic products testifies to its high quality and competitiveness. Ukraine's leading position in global trade in organic products demonstrates the active development of the industry, which is a priority in the ministry's agricultural policy," the press service of the ministry quotes Taras Kachka, Ukraine's Trade Representative, as saying.

In 2019, the EU imported 3.24 million tonnes of organic agricultural and food products, of which more than 10% was delivered from Ukraine.

Ukrainian exports to the EU increased by 27%, to 337,856 tonnes (against 265,817 tonnes in 2018).

"Basically, the EU exports from Ukraine grain (except rice and wheat, 76.9% of cereals are of Ukrainian origin), wheat (31.8% from Ukraine), oilseeds (except soy, 18.2%, Ukraine is runner-up after Turkey), soybeans (4th place with 13% of soybean imports from Ukraine), and fruit (11%, 3rd place).

Also, Ukraine is one of the largest exporters of oilcake, fruit juices, and vegetables, which are key export products, the report adds.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2019 exported goods worth $50 billion, with the European Union being the country's largest trading partner.
