Ukrainians owe over US$2.2 bln for housing, utility services as of late May

In May, Ukrainians paid US$446.2 million for housing and utility services.

Ukrainian households' debts for housing and utility services fell by 5.2% as of late May, to UAH 59.9 billion (US$2.2 billion) against April 2020.

In particular, Ukrainians owe UAH 23.9 billion (US$896.1 million) for gas supplies, UAH 18.8 billion (US$704.9 million) for heating and hot water, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

Their debts for the maintenance of houses and adjacent areas are estimated at UAH 5 billion (US$187.4 million), those for cold water supplies at UAH 5.4 billion (US$202.4 million), household waste removal at UAH 1 billion (US$37.5 million), and for consumed electricity at UAH 5.8 billion (US$217.4 million).

In May alone, Ukrainians paid UAH 11.9 billion (US$446.2 million) for housing and utility services, which was 137.5% of the amounts accrued for that period.

"In May 2020, some 2,000 agreements were concluded with households to pay off restructured debts totaling UAH 12 million (US$449,944). The amount of payments, including under long-term contracts, was UAH 18.6 million (US$697,413)," it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian households' debts for housing and utility services exceeded UAH 63.2 billion (US$2.4 billion) as of May 1, 2020.
