Unemployment in Ukraine grows by 64%

Ukraine's State Employment Service says the number of unemployed in Ukraine grew by 64% as of May 20, 2020, against the figure as of May 20, 2019, to 501,000 people.

"As of May 20, 2020, the number of unemployed is 501,000, which is by 196,500, or 64%, up year-over-year," the report says.

At the same time, the number of vacancies is 51,000. This is almost 55% fewer than last year, the report said.

The average wage for existing vacancies is UAH 7,000 (US$262).

Today there is a demand in the processing industry (17% of the total number of vacancies), trade (15%), transport, and courier services (11%).

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) says the introduction of the coronavirus-related quarantine in the country will not have a significant impact on the unemployment indicator for the first quarter of 2020 (Q1), but the rate may significantly rise, to 11.5%, in Q2.
