Unemployment rate growing rapidly in Ukraine, following in Europe's steps – media

Ukraine is not the only country that has faced rising unemployment. As of June 1, over 510,000 unemployed have been officially registered in Ukraine, according to the State Service.

However, the actual number of unemployed in May was about 2.5-2.8 million. Moreover, the number of officially unemployed has doubled since quarantine start, Ukrainian TV Channel 24 reports.

"Europe is also experiencing it, being the largest recepient of Ukrainian labor resources. Many European companies have to cut staff, dismissing employees, including Ukrainians," reads the report.

About 30% of Ukrainians in Poland lost their jobs due to a pandemic, according to President of the All-Ukrainian Association of International Employment Companies Vasyl Voskoboinyk.

"It is clear Ukraine will not pay subsidies to Polish companies so that they don't fire Ukrainians," expert Oleksiy Kushch said.

In Spain, which has become one of the coronavirus hotbeds, the unemployment rate has also been growing rapidly. The number of actually unemployed in Spain has reached 3.8 million as of early May. Of these, nearly 300,000 lost their jobs in just one month, Channel 24 reports citing foreign publications.

In Britain, the situation is even more critical. About half a million people have applied for unemployment assistance in two weeks.
