Unemployment on rise, stats agency says

The unemployment rate in the second quarter rose to 9.9%.

The unemployment rate in Ukraine in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter increased by 1.3 percentage points, from 8.6% to 9.9%, which is 1.7 million people in absolute terms.

That's according to the State Statistics Service.

Employment rate in Ukraine

The number of employed citizens aged 15-70 years in the second quarter of 2020 stood at 15.6 million, the report reads. The employment rate of the population aged 15-70 was at 55.2%.

Background

The unemployment rate in January-March 2020 compared to the previous quarter decreased by 0.1 percentage points, down to 8.6%, which in absolute terms equals 1.5 million people.

According to the macroeconomic forecast of the Cabinet of Ministers for the next three years, the unemployment rate for the population aged 15 to 70 is projected at 9.2% in 2021, 8.5% in 2022, and 8% in 2023.
