Wage arrears in Ukraine grow to US$117.8 mln in May

Companies' debts to employees expanded by almost 5% within one month.

Ukrainian enterprises' wage arrears in May 2020 grew by 4.9% from April 2020, to UAH 3.142 billion (US$117.8 million) as of June 1, 2020.

Arrears owed by operating enterprises were estimated at UAH 1.958 billion (US$73.4 million) as of June 1, 2020, which was 7.5% up from the figure reported as of May 1, 2020, the State Statistics Service reported.

The report does not include information from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, delayed wages as of January 1, 2020, were estimated at UAH 3.034 billion (US$113.7 million), which was 14.7%, or UAH 389.3 million (US$14.6 million), up on January 1, 2019.

As of January 1, 2020, the minimum wage in Ukraine increased by UAH 550 (US$20.62), to UAH 4,723 (US$177) per month, or UAH 28.31 (US$1.06) per hour.
